I was lucky enough on the 2nd and 3rd of December to have the honour and privilege of seeing Foo Fighters live in concert; the first night in seats and the second night in the mighty, mighty mosh pit.
The seated tickets on December 2nd allowed me to really bask in the singalongs and watch the crowd go wild in the presence of one of the biggest and best rock bands of all time. Before Dave Grohl and company hit the stage, Tenacious D warmed the crowd with their hilarious, yet rocking style. Jack Black and Kyle Gass commanded the hard-rock crowd with nothing but acoustic guitars and hilarious facial expressions. Having said this, their backing band sounded brilliant as The 'D blasted through their hits such as "Kickapoo", "Friendship", "The Road", "Fuck Her Gently" and of course "Tribute" which provided a great crowd singalong experience.
When the Foos hit the stage, the crowd erupted as the opening riff of "All My Life" burst through the speakers. The band sounded amazing and their presence, especially that of Dave Grohl, were unmatched. The band slammed through hit-after-hit, from recent hits "Rope" and "The Pretender" to classics such as "Monkey Wrench" and "This is a Call". The crowd sang along, jumped like crazy and generally went nuts! It was a glorious sight. After the rockin' tune "Best of You", and a brief backstage skit where the band demanded the crowd beg for more tunes, the band returned to the stage for the encore. By the band, I mean Dave Grohl with an acoustic guitar. He entered a platform in the centre of the stadium, which raised into the air. He rocked tunes such as "Times Like These" and "Wheels" acoustic, providing some of the best lighter-to-the-air concert moments I've ever witnessed. The full band re-entered the stage, and they sounded so damn full, with the re-addition of Pat Smear to the band. They finished the set with a cover of Queen's "Tie Your Mother Down" before leading into their set closer, a MASSIVE singalong to "Everlong". All-in-all it was an amazing experience, and a new one to me. I am used to moshing around at shows, and sitting back and taking everything in and crowd watching was incredibly amusing, as was leaving the arena as fresh as I walked in!

The following day I woke up, ready to rock again! We headed to AAMI Stadium nice and early and sat in the boiling sun to secure great spots right on the ramp running from the stage. Tenacious D once again rocked the crowd; looking much more comfortable than the night before. Foo Fighters completely swapped the setlist around from the night before, and it was structured a lot better than the previous night. They hit the stage with "Bridge Burning", which led to 30,000+ screaming "These are my famous last words!". The crowd was moshing like crazy and singing at the top of their lungs. I've heard before that the bigger the show, the less atmosphere there is, but I can say first hand that at this particular show, that was far from the truth! The light show, the immense sound, the crowd going crazy and Dave constantly running around the stage and up-and-down the ramp made it truely a show to remember! Playing four more songs than the previous night, Foo Fighters also blasted through songs such as "Dear Rosemary", "Arlandria", "Long Road to Ruin", "Stacked Actors" and many, many more!
As good as it was to be able to relax and enjoy the amazing atmosphere and music on the first night, there is nothing quite like jumping around, headbanging and losing your voice in a mosh pit because you're screaming all of your favourite songs, especially when you're surrounded by topless women. It was undoubtedly one of my favourite concerts I've EVER been to (and I've seen Metallica, Soundgarden, Green Day, Lady Gaga, Slash, Iron Maiden and many others who know how to get a crowd rocking). Being three feet away from Dave Grohl is something I will NEVER forget. I highly recommend you throw "Seeing Foo Fighters Live" onto your bucket list, because it will be an experience you will long remember!
